Behind the Badge is that rare kind of memoir: the story of one man’s descent into addiction and back out again, told with clear-eyed authenticity. Scott Fleuter’s journey is one of persistence and grit through the highs and lows of addiction and recovery. Utterly engrossing, achingly honest and never self-pitying, Behind the Badge is a testament to the resilience of the human spirit.

The True Struggle of an Opioid Addict

Please think about ordering this quick read book. I have never known what an opioid user truly goes through and this book is certainly an eye-opener. It is emotionally raw, filled with an addicts truth and steps to help in the struggle. This isn’t just for the opioid user, but for any addiction with the help of some survival skills. Read it for yourself, for someone you know, or just to learn about the horrors in the life of an opioid addict.

Captivating

I was captured by the earnest storytelling and the simplistic style of just getting to the point, which is so valuable in itself there is no need for fluff or over clarification. The tools he recommends at the end of each chapter are spot on for the experiences he describes and are useful in everyday life. Very well thought out for the benefit of all. A gift. Thank you Scott Fleuter and the team of people that got this book out.

It’s Never Too Late to be a Student

On November 4th I was honored to be the guest speaker at two Rogue Community College’s composition classes.

It was the first time I spoke in public about Behind the Badge. I was terrified. But, the students’ openness and honesty allowed me to be vulnerable. I learned that people are more empathetic than I thought.

They must have a good teacher!
